Solar bins on the streets of Prague
Prague has tested modern waste containers that are more efficient and friendly to the environment than classic garbage bins due to the compression ability and due to the fact that they provide data about their fulness. As part of the six-month pilot project, thirty trial solar containers powered by photovoltaic panels were installed in the center of Prague in the second half of 2017. They draw energy from photovoltaic panels. In comparison with standard garbage bins, they reduced the number of garbage collections by 95%. Moreover, the surroundings of these containers remained clean and waste was not laying around. And the environment was happy as well since the collection trucks had to make less trips, thus combusting less exhaust gases.

Data utilization
The data from this pilot project can be used for, for example, calculating the investment return period related to acquiring additional compression baskets by other partners.
Recommendation on behalf of the data area
The given contractor has to be able to access the fulness messages submitted by the garbage bins via API. These messages will be aggregated by the ICT Operator or Pražské Služby as an instruction to collect the garbage from the bin.
